Wyoming
Top Choice: 3 Creek Ranch, Jackson Hole
9.8/10
Designed By: Rees Jones
In terms of luxury and exclusivity 3 Creek Ranch is at the top of the food chain-and that's not just in Wyoming--that's anywhere worldwide. This private course is costly to join, but if you can afford it, the service and experience is unparalleled.
The winding green grass will lead you through an interesting journey of undulations, elevation changes, and stunning views of the not-so-distant Teton Mountain range. Bunkers are well designed and almost artistically shaped. The greens are large and formed with plenty of challenging breaks...and as expected, there is plenty of water to negotiate as you work your way over and through the aptly named 3 Creeks that were there long before the course.
Unlike so many other courses, at 3 Creek Ranch, you still manage to feel as though you were in the wild and somehow almost forget that the golf course itself isn't a naturally occurring part of the expansive natural beauty around you. This is truly a treat, and if given the chance, this is a round you won't forget.
Other Top Courses
Snake River Sporting Club
-
Pros: In the highly competitive Jackson Hole golf market, there are several courses that claim to be superior but when it comes down to it, Snake River Sporting Club is probably the best designed of all of them. Great hole layouts, extremely undulated greens, and good use of the natural environment make it compete with the best of them.
Cons: It is a bit out of the way, being south of the town of Jackson and does not have the same mountain views as its local rivals.
Score:
9.6/10
Shooting Star
-
Pros: Perhaps the best location of any of the courses on the list, Shooting Star is right at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village. The course is very well designed and has a links feel with winding creeks and blind shots to navigate.
Cons: It is now almost completely private and the waiting list makes in inaccessible for the commoner.
Score:
9.5/10
Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis
-
Pros: In terms of Teton Mountain views, Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis actually has the rest of them beat. The driving range is one of the best you will ever see as you tee up and fire directly at the sweeping mountain backdrop. Plenty of interesting holes and usually well maintained this is a solid choice for anyone looking to experience high-end Wyoming golf.
Cons: Given that it is the only course that is really accessible to the public, it has become quite expensive and more difficult to play than in years past.
Score:
9.3/10
Teton Pines
-
Pros: As one of the original signature courses in the area Teton Pines has its fair share of good qualities but given the influx of new top-end courses it has gradually fallen down the list. Don't get us wrong, it is plenty nice and always in pristine condition with some of the truest greens you will putt anywhere.
Cons: It is beginning to feel a bit dated and is still on the expensive side.
